The Magic of the Simple Breath.
Breath – it is freeing and anchoring – at the same time. – My breath is my ticket out of madness, out of my projections into the future and sojourns into the past. My conscious breath is the feeling of coming home to myself – and being fully where I am with all of my senses engaged. Breath helps me to corral my thoughts and emotions which can run rampant, like a bull in a china shop. It helps me to understand why a comment stings, or makes my chest swell with joy. It helps me to understand that I am making judgments of people, situations, strangers based on a story I have told myself. Most importantly, my breath brings me back to consciously living my life, in the only time and place it matters – right NOW in the present moment.
Breath is powerful. It quiets the mind and literally brings peace and calm. Our quest for happiness, and healthiness – the breath can be an effective tool that is TOTALLY free.
Dealing with Anger or other strong emotions: Take 10 deep breaths, making the exhale longer than the inhale. You will arrive at clarity (if that is what you desire)
Dealing with Happiness and other glowing emotions: Take 3 deep breaths and mentally record every aspect of the experience
Dealing with Anxiety and other fearful emotions: Try the 4-7-8 Breath, taught by Dr. Andrew Weil. Inhale for four counts, hold for 7 counts and exhale for 8 counts. Repeat 4 times. (keep tip of tongue pressed between the two front teeth for the whole exercise). Your body cannot hold anxiety when you do this exercise
Dealing with cravings: Become conscious of your breathing, as you begin to check in to see what “feeling” you are looking to experience - comfort, safety, love?
Just remember - your peace, clarity and serenity is always easily accessible, just below your nose.
